Musing Mondays are hosted by Should Be Reading

This Monday’s Question: Do you have a system as to which books to read from your “requested review pile?  What is it?  What about when there are too many to read in a certain time frame?

My Simple Answer: I read whatever I’m in the mood for first so I know that I’m in the right mind frame to enjoy it. For instance, if I’ve been rereading Sherlock Holmes and I request/get requested to read a mystery novel, I’m going to be reaching for that first. As for too many reads within a certain time frame, I don’t have a problem with that very often because I’m kind of exceptionally picky, so not many reads catch my interest. Figuring out how to schedule book reviews and author interviews and weekly features? That’s a whole other topic.

My Not-So-Simple Answer: Most of the time, what I read first isn’t what I review first. If I receive ARCs, I usually review them by publishing date. Then I try to vary the order of my reviews; I don’t want to have a bunch of 2 star reviews in a row or bunch of 5 star reviews in a row so my new readers won’t think I’m too critical or like everything. So I’ll review a book I liked, then a book I didn’t like, and then a book I liked again.

 What about you?

  1. I like the way you describe varying your reviews….and I agree that it’s better to not have so many review books coming in. I am getting pickier as time goes by. Thanks for visiting my blog.

I think your idea of varying good reviews with bad reviews is interesting – definitely something I’ll think about trying. Leaving it up to chance, I do sometimes feel like I might look really critical while at other times I worry that I’m handing out 5 star reviews like candy :-P

I like your method! I need to learn to say “no” more often.

Interesting way to do your reviews! I have to do mine as soon as I read them or shortly after. Thanks for stopping by!

  5. That’s a good system for doing your reviews. I like that you know what books you want to read… sometimes I say yes to too many requests and find myself not enjoying them as much as I should because I resent that I have to read them by a deadline in the first place, lol.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! :)

  6. Sometimes I wish I was picky but then sometimes I don’t becaue then I wouldn’t have read some of the great books I have. Thanks for stopping by today!
