Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday was a Freebie, where I could come up with any topic I wanted. I came up with the idea Top Ten Fictional Places I’d Love to Vacation! It’s summertime and that means vacation planning time, but aren’t there some fictional places from books that you’d just love to visit in person? Here are my choices of where in the (fictional) world I’d love to vacation:

genovia

1. Genovia from The Princess Diaries series

Who wouldn’t want to visit Genovia, the charming European country? Maybe when I visit I’ll stop by the palace and see if Mia is in. There’s even a Visit Genovia webpage!

Restaurant

2. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series

“If you’ve done six impossible things this morning, why not round it off with breakfast at Milliways—the Restaurant at the End of the Universe!”  As soon as I get ahold of a time machine, I’ll stop at this restaurant! I’ll be sure to deposit a penny in a bank account now, so that by the time the end of the universe comes, the compound interest on the penny can pay the bill.

The Moon and More

3. Colby from Along for the Ride, Keeping the Moon, and The Moon and More

The beach town mentioned in Sarah Dessen’s novels sounds like so much fun! The beach houses, the Tip, the Last Chance Cafe, the Clementine’s boutique, and more!

Pern

4. The planet Pern from the Dragonriders of Pern series

Obviously I have to vacation someplace with dragons at least once. As soon as I reach Pern, I’m finding out how to take dragon riding lessons (and seeing if I can take a tour of Harper Hall)!

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

5. Futuristic France from Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles #2)

After I get ahold of that time machine and visit a certain restaurant at the end of the universe, I think I’ll pop back to futuristic France. Between the spaceships, The Rieux Tavern, and Bennoit Farms and Gardens, the Rieux in Scarlet‘s futuristic France sounds like so much fun!

Wonderland

6. Wonderland from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

I’d love to have some tea at the Mad Tea Party (it’s always happening, so at least I won’t miss it) and see if I can spot the Cheshire Cat!

waterfall

7. Dinotopia from the Dinotopia series

There would be so much to see in Dinotopia: Waterfall city, Canyon City, and Treetown. Oh, yeah, and DINOSAURS!

United We Spy

8. The Gallagher Academy from The Gallagher Girls series

Okay, so I couldn’t vacation at the Gallagher Academy, but surely I could be an exchange student there next fall, right? Secret passageways, different sub-levels, and a sword that can catch someone’s hair on fire. Gotta love spy school.

Nim's Island

9. Nim’s Island from Nim’s Island

The descriptions of Nim’s Island are absolutely beautiful, I’d love to go there!

TARDIS 2

10. The TARDIS from Doctor Who

Since I need a time machine to get to destinations #2 and #5 on my list, why not take the TARDIS? Besides, it has a library! And a swimming pool (which may or may not be in the library).

Where in the (fictional) world would you like to vacation this summer?

  1. This was such a cool TTT. I think my only place I’d want to visit is Hogwarts, and I’ve kind of already been there. ;) My TTT is Favorite Covers on my To-Read List, but it doesn’t go live until 9am.

  2. Great list! And while I love Harry Potter, kudos for not using Hogwarts!

  3. Wonderland yes!! This is such a good idea!! I would have had Hogwarts, Narnia and the world of Vampire Academy in mine! I will so have to borrow this idea for the next freebie! :)

  4. I’d love to visit Dinotopia! That would be amazing! Very fun topic. :)

  5. Great list! I especially love #10; oh the places I would go if I had a TARDIS :D

    My TTT

  6. oh I love your topic but my number one place I’d want to visit is Hogwart’s dinning hall hands down!

  7. Merin says:

I agree that Futuristic Rieux and Wonderland would be amazing. I could also get behind a secret foray into the Gallagher Academy! My favorite fictional place to visit would probably be Middle-Earth, though, simply for the epicness of it. I would have to stay until I saw absolutely everything!

  8. Anne says:

I am so happy to see a Douglas Adams spot. And surprised that Hogwarts isn’t on the list. What a fun list!

  9. Lucy says:

That would be so fun to visit Colby! Ooh and the Tardis- how cool! Great topic :)

  10. Nikki says:

Ahhh, this is such an awesome topic!! All the places you mentioned sound fantastic, but I LOVE that you put the TARDIS as your last “destination”. Sensible, but also just plain awesome. :D

Thanks for stopping by my Top Ten!

  11. Michelle says:

Super fun idea!! I would definitely want to go to that castle in Genovia and Wonderland for sure! I love nonsense! I would have put Hogwarts on my list just because I want to go to the theme park in Orlando SO FREAKING BAD!!

    My TTT Freebie

  12. Love the idea of being an exchange student at The Gallagher Academy! Genovia and Pern are also great picks, but I’d be too freaked out to visit Wonderland, LOL.

Thanks so much for checking out my TTT list. :)

  13. ChrissiReads says:

Great list! I have to say that mine would be Wonderland too. It would just be so much fun! I’d want to drink and eat the things Alice did though to experience it all!

  14. Genovia and Nim’s Island! So clever :) Great list

Thanks for stopping by Swept Away By Books!

  15. KateB says:

I love the topic you chose! I’m having difficulties coming up with a topic today… but I love yours.
Genovia – I love the sound of it. It sounds gorgeous. And the TARDIS is the ultimate – with it you could go anywhere. EVen fictional worlds. I’m sure there’s a button or a switch or something that allows you to cross dimensions into fictional reality :D

  16. When I was a toddler, I begged my parents to take me to Wonderland. Sigh! This is a great idea for a TTT! I guess I’d like to go to Eretz from Daughter of Smoke and Bone, but only once all the warring and killing are done with!

  17. Sapir says:

LOL Genovia!! I’ve read The Princess Diaries when I was 11 and I was completely sure it was a real country. I wish I could visit there…

Great list!! I’m a new follower via Bloglovin. Can you please follow back? Thanks ^^

  18. Anya says:

Yes, Pern!!! As long as it isn’t near a threadfall time >.> Here is my TTT this week!

  19. Nemo says:

Genovia! What a wonderful dream location! I’d so love to visit Pern as well – I’ve read nearly all of the Pern books and the place sounds so amazing! Hopefully with no Threadfall, though :P

  20. Daphne says:

i’m with you! we can both be companions on the tardis. also, hello, Genovia!

  21. Bibliophile says:

You picked a great topic. I especially agree with # 1 and 2, but would put a question mark at # 6 – the Red queen would have to be far, far away.

  22. Candice says:

Genovia… the land I call my own… haha I’m going to have that song stuck in my head all day! It would be a lovely vacation place though! I’d also LOVE to visit the Gallagher Academy, but with my luck they’d turn it all boring and hide all the spy stuff! Great idea and choices!

  23. sashandem says:

Colby sounds like JUST the place for right now – summertime! :)

  24. acps927 says:

What a great topic! I would want to visit Narnia and Middle Earth (the Shire and Rivendell more specifically).

  25. MsJohannah says:

Great top ten Tuesday! Awesome list! I’d love to go to Alice in wonderland! I didn’t think if that!

  26. What a great topic!! I would love to go to Rivendell!

  27. Great picks!! So many awesome fictional places to visit. I’d love to go to Rivendell…Hogwarts…Narnia… :) Thanks for stopping by!
    Bonnie @ Sweet Tidbits

  28. Quinn says:

Ooo, sign me up for Genovia! Freaking Genovia, I would go there in an instant. I’d be scared to go to Scarlet’s France though. I would probably catch the plague and die in the first few days I was there. But if it meant I would get to meet Wolf, I’d take that chance :)

  29. Lovely, topic! I’d be simultaneously excited and frightened of a Tardis trip :)

  30. Andi says:

Oh, great list! Those places are all so vivid. Love it. Colby seems like oodles of fun.

  31. Lia says:

I would love to visit some of these places, especially Genovia (which I thought was a real country when I was little and first saw the movie), the Gallagher Academy, and the TARDIS. I’ve only read one of Sarah Dessen’s books so far and it didn’t have Colby in it, but I love little beach towns, so that sounds like a place I would love to visit as well and a sign that I need to read her books that feature it!

  32. What a fantastic post! I’d definitely go to Genovia first! I’d also visit Colby, Wonderland and the Gallagher Academy. I think Hogwarts would have to be on my list, too if I were to make one, and the Shire. Great list! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  33. exploringallgenres says:

Oh my gosh, yes Genovia. I would definitely want to go there if I could. Great list. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  34. I love this list! Basically every place you’ve named is somewhere I’d love to travel. I’d add Hogwarts and Narnia, though. How interesting it would be to explore these places. I really like this idea. I’ll have to store it somewhere for the next freebie.

All of these places sound like fun, magical places to vacation. I love when story worlds are so well developed that they feel real. Great list!

Love this topic! Great choices. I’m coming to Genovia with you!

  37. The TARDIS is definitely my favorite on this list, although Wonderland and the Gallagher Academy are pretty cool choices, too. :) Awesome topic!!

    My TTT

  38. Risbee says:

Oh, I’m with you on the futuristic France — can I get a ride? Great list!

  39. Kelly L. says:

I’ll love to go to Gallagher Academy! All the secret tunnels, the secret classrooms, etc. It’s like a dream come true! ;D

    My TTT

  40. Morgan says:

This is a great topic! I would love to go to Genovia!!

    New follower! :)

  41. WHAT?? There is a series about dinosaurs??!! Omg I need to read these, I LOVE dinosaurs! They are DA BEST! Sorry for freaking out, but my life just became infinitely more exciting.

    • It’s not a YA series, but I love it! The main books have amazing illustrations on almost every page (they’re not children’s picture books, though, the plot is sophisticated); there was also a TV mini series made several years ago! :)

  42. Great topic! I would love to go to Pern… Actually, I did a similar topic (favorite SF/fantasy worlds), so rather than list them here, I’ll just point you to my TTT list!

  43. Emily says:

Colby and Genovia! Perfect. Great list!

  44. I think I would pick Manderlay. English mansions close to the sea :D

    Love your topic!

  45. Sunny says:

I LOVE the list! I agree with all the places :) Genovia, Colby, Gallagher Girl mansion, oooh! Futuristic France, that’s a good one! Great list!

  46. Breanna says:

It has been my dream forever to visit Genovia and Colby Beach… They would definitely be on my list!

  47. Terri says:

When you hit the restaurant, Pern and Dinotopia, please take me with you! ;)

  48. Debby says:

Hah, I love this topic! And you get mega cool points for including the TARDIS xD Genovia and The Restaurant at the End of the universe are awesome picks as well. Nice list! :)

  49. Krystianna says:

Great post. It would be so cool to go to Wonderland! Alice had some pretty great adventures, so I’m pretty sure everyone else would too. :)

  50. Lisa says:

Oh my god, the TARDIS. I would do just about anything to take a ride in it. I think Genovia would be pretty cool too. When I was younger I was pretty heartbroken to find out it wasn’t real. Haha. And Colby, uh YES. And Wonderland. And a spy academy? Why NOT?

This is such a quality list. I’m pretty sure all of these would be awesome. Haha.
