For this week’s Cover Love, I’m featuring Love in the Time of Global Warming by Francesca Lia Block:

Love in the Time of Global Warming

The Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Penelope (Pen) has lost everything—her home, her parents, and her ten-year-old brother. Like a female Odysseus in search of home, she navigates a dark world full of strange creatures, gathers companions and loses them, finds love and loses it, and faces her mortal enemy.

In her signature style, Francesca Lia Block has created a world that is beautiful in its destruction and as frightening as it is lovely. At the helm is Pen, a strong heroine who holds hope and love in her hands and refuses to be defeated.

Why I Chose This Cover:

This cover looks so different from the rest of the covers I’ve been seeing lately! First of all, I absolutely love the gorgeous butterflies flying out from the girl’s silhouette, they’re what first caught my attention. First there’s the bright orange Monarch butterfly, then the rest are mostly silhouettes themselves. I also love the blue and black color scheme, offset by the pops of orange, white, and grey. The unruly waves remind me of the “Odeyssus” reference made in the synopsis, and the house, the flower, (and is that an eye in the bottom left corner?) are also fascinating.

What book covers do you love?
