Top Ten Books Featuring Travel (and My Favorite Ways of Transportation)
68June 3, 2013 by Alice in Readerland
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
Don’t you just love how books are their own transportation method to let you travel to different places? Just last week I talked about fictional places I’d love to vacation. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday was Top Ten Books Featuring Travel in Some Way–and I’m mixing it up by including my favorite transportation methods:
(Titles link to goodreads)
By Bubble:
In the Princess for Hire series, Desi gets to go to some pretty cool places, by travelling in a BUBBLE!
By Time Traveling:
In The Time-Traveling Fashionista series, Louise gets to go back in time–and get a new wardrobe!
By Flying (No, not in a plane. Actually FLYING):
Sure, Neverland from Peter Pan sounds fun, but doesn’t FLYING there sound better?
By Flying (Okay, this time in an actual plane):
Okay, so flying in a plane is a pretty normal way to travel. But there was no way I wasn’t including The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight on my travel list, considering the entire book takes place in an airport, on a plane, and then in London. My review.
By Magic Mirror:
In the Whatever After series, Abby and Jonah get sucked through the mirror in their basement and deposited into fairy tales, making for some hilarious adventures! My review.
By A Fairy, er, Fair Godmother:
In the My Fair Godmother, Savannah’s fairy godmother didn’t do well in fairy school and is actually only a fair godmother. Which is how Savannah ends up in the Middle Ages.
Through a Rabbit Hole:
Alice sure traveled around Wonderland a lot, and all it took was one misstep down a rabbit hole.
By space ship:
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy had a ton of travel in it, complete with cool space ships.
And last but not least:
Road Trip Books (Because I Love a Good Road Trip Book):
I loved How My Summer Went Up in Flames (my review) and all the settings we got to see! (Be sure to check back here tomorrow for an ARC review of Jennifer’s next novel Famous Last Words, and see my fun interview with her!)
Because How to Be Bad has Lauren Myracle, Sarah Mlynowski, and e. Lockhart all in one fabulous road trip book.
What are your favorite books featuring travel (and your favorite transportation methods)?
Great list! Awesome that you included Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, it’s my favourite from the series. Hilarious stuff! :D
Favourite transportation mode: airplanes. I enjoy flights (though probably not the super long ones, like from here to somewhere in Asia and the flights are 20+ hours long), I guess because I’m pretty good at sleeping almost anywhere xP
My TTT
Thanks, I just had to include that one! :) The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight had a lot of chapters that took place on the airplane–and I loved reading the author’s background story about it!
Um, I would kind of love to travel by bubble. And magic mirror. Those would be amazing. :)
My TTT post :)
I’d love to travel by bubble too (though Desi’s own bubble was bumpy at first)! :)
How to be Bad made my list too… I think I wouldn’t mind to travel by bubble or magic mirror either, they sound fun. I don’t think I would want to travel by Fair Godmother since she tends to always screw everything up… LOL but super cute idea for your list this week!
My TTT
Thanks! :) I wouldn’t want to travel by Fair Godmother, either…but it was funny watching Savannah! ;)
Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland – I’m smacking myself in the head saying, “DUH!” Totally forgot about those. Great list!
Thanks for stopping by & commenting! :)
I’ve heard The Summer I Went Up In Flames is super cute, and I really want to read Peter Pan! Thanks for stopping by!
Rachel @ Beauty and the Bookshelf
I hope you get a chance to read both! :)
The Time Travelling Fashionista looks amazing – the cover alone. I’ve not heard of it before but it sounds adorable. And for some reason I adore lists when you (Alice in Readerland) can put Alice in Wonderland on you list. It feels right :)
I’m reading it now, I was surprised to see that there are little drawings inside, they’re really cute! :) Thanks, I love it when I can reference Alice in Wonderland too!
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight seems to be in most lists (including mine) this week. Haven’t read most of this but How My Summer Went Up in flames is on my to-read. Better check out the other books here.
I hope you enjoy How My Summer Went Up in Flames!!! :)
Nice list! I love the different ways of traveling you came up with. Very unique! I don’t think I’ve read a lot of the books on your list, but How My Summer Went Up in Flames and the Time Traveling Fashionista sound really interesting! :)
Thanks for checking out my TTT!
Thanks so much, I had a lot of fun with this list! I’m still reading The Time Traveling Fashionista, and I really enjoyed How My Summer Went Up in Flames! :)
A great selection of books on your list! I didn’t think to use Peter Pan on my list!
Thanks for stopping by & commenting! :)
Great list! I love that you included Peter Pan, I would have never thought to be that creative! My preferred method of travel when it comes to books is time travel, that genre definitely outweighs all the other travel genres when it comes to my book piles :)
I love time travel books too, I definitely need to find more of them! :)
Awesome list!!! I really want to read How My Summer Went Up In Flames. It’s on my TBR for this summer vacation and I can’t wait to start it.

Your list was great – I love traveling myself – I used to travel a lot for work and even though it wasn’t “for fun” i loved seeing all the different places. I loved that you included “Peter Pan” and “Alice in Wonderland” on your list – classics!
I haven’t read How My Summer Went Up In Flames or her new book – I’m exicted to check your reviews on those books!
Great list!!
Thank you! :)
Nice list! Haven’t heard of most of the books! Will have to check then out!
Thanks! Every time there’s a Top Ten Tuesday and I visit all the other lists, my TBR list grows so much longer! :)
Yes, love Janette Rallison! I still need to read the Whatever After series. They all look so good :)
The Whatever After series is MG, but it’s really cute and quick if you love Sarah M. and fairy tales! :)
