toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

We’re already more than halfway through the year 2013, and that means that I’ve already had a chance to choose what I consider to be the best books I’ve read so far (for the first time) this year! These are books that made me gasp, laugh, smile, and have kept me on the edge of my seat. Basically, these are books that have made me go:

Wonderful Story

Let’s begin:

1. A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan

A Long Long Sleep

My Review

Imagine the story of Sleeping Beauty set in the future with some Doctor Who-like elements, and you’ve got the core idea for A Long, Long Sleep. This book completely blew me away with its character development; I loved watching the main character grow from being timid to conquering everything that stood in her way. I heard there’s going to be a sequel for this book coming out in 2014 (and being published in the UK, so I hope it comes to the USA so I can read it)!

 2. UnrememberedUnremembered

My Review

Jessica Brody’s 52 Reasons to Hate My Father made my list of Best Books of 2012, so it only seems fitting that Unremembered makes my list of Best 2013 Books! I absolutely adore Jessica Brody’s writing and humor; and the ending was so fantastic that I gave it a gif of a clapping bunny. That doesn’t happen often around here, folks.

3. How My Summer Went Up in Flames/Famous Last Words by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski

How My Summer Went Up in FlamesFamous Last Words

My How My Summer Went Up in Flames Review

My Famous Last WordsReview/Author Interview

Jennifer Salvato Doktorski has already had two books published this year, and both of them are incredibly hilarious, have great narrations, quirky characters, fun dialogue, and are all around must-read contemporaries!

4. All Our Yesterdays by Cristen Terrill

All Our Yesterdays

I received an ARC of this book and I am so excited to review it, as it’s already one of my favorite books of the year! It is packed with plenty of action, thought-provoking scenes, humor, heartbreak, and of course, time travel!

5. Cinder/Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Cinder

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Cinder Review/Scarlet Review

I love the Lunar Chronicles, it’s definitely become one of my favorite book series ever! This series is perfect because it manages to both add a totally new dimension to what we already know about the fairy tales yet give nods to the original tellings. I am so excited to read Cress!

6. The Summer I Became a Nerd by Leigh Rae Miller

My Review/Author Interview

This book was one of my most anticipated 2013 releases and it did not disappoint! The Summer I Became a Nerd was so cute and fun, guaranteed to put a smile on your face!

7. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight

My Review

With its wonderful writing style, sweet story line, and an ending that will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight has definitely made me fall in love with it.

8. The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen

The Moon and More Cover

My Review

It’s Sarah Dessen! Of course it made my list. Plus, I loved the references to This Lullaby, Along for the Ride, and The Truth About Forever (my 3 favorite Dessen books) in The Moon and More!

9. Also Known As by Robin Benway

Also Known As Cover

My Review

I love Robin Benway’s books! In fact, I called Audrey, Wait! a reason to love YA. So when I heard that she was writing a spy novel with the lead who was a safecracker, I knew it was going to be fabulous. I wasn’t wrong.

10. Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt

Going Vintage

My Review

The secondary character in this book, the smart and hilarious Ginnie, is one of my favorite YA characters ever!

What have your favorite books of 2013 been?

Going Vintage! Yes! Okay – so I haven’t read it but everytime I see it around – either in store or oniine – I get this feeling that it’s going to be a book that I’ll like. Now I just need to read it :P

I love Jennifer E Smith – have you read This is What Happy Looks Like? I Really liked that one too. And The Summer I Became A Nerd is all sorts of adorable. Larping Cheerleaders… I love the idea.

    • I love the lists at the beginning of each chapter in Going Vintage! This is What Happy Looks Like was really cute, and according to Goodreads, Jennifer’s next book will be called The Geography of Us and is about “A blackout in New York City brings together two teenager.” Really excited to hear more about it! :)

  2. The two titles by Jennifer Doktorski sounds great! And I really hope to get around to Going Vintage one of these days :)

Ah, I’ve been hearing a small buzz surrounding All Our Yesterdays — it’s on my radar, so I might check it once I’m in the mood for its genre. I’ve seen Going Vintage before, and on many, many lists. It looks like a light but fun novel I’d enjoy reading (:

Thanks for stopping by and happy reading!

  5. SO many good books, and books I’ve been dying to read. A Long, Long Sleep has been on my Kindle forever, I just have not gotten around to it yet. You make it sound awesome, though! I have ARCs of both Jennifer’s books, and I’m excited to read them! I am SO behind! And I JUST got All Our Yesterdays, so I’m so excited to hear you loved it! Sadly, I was not the biggest fan of Going Vintage, but it did have its cute moments! Thanks for visiting my TTT. :)

    • I had been eyeing A Long, Long Sleep for a while and was so surprised at how much I ended up loving it! Jennifer’s books are so fun and I’m really excited for the next All Our Yesterdays, :)

  6. Rebecca says:

I actually just started How My Summer Went Up in Flames, and so far I think it’s really cute! Scarlet was an awesome sequel to Cinder, and I’m excited for Going Vintage. Nice list!

  7. I really liked ‘A Long, Long Sleep’, too! Nice to know someone else has read it and appreciated it :)
I want, no NEED, to read ‘Cinder’, ‘Un-Remembered’, and ‘All Our Yesterdays’. I’m glad to know they’re worthy of a Top Ten list!

  8. I’m planning on reading Cinder ASAP. It’s been on my shelf, unread, for far too long! Yay for Robin Benway! Love love love her books.

Thanks for stopping by My TTT! :)

  9. Maria says:

Cinder and Scarlet are two titles that I keep coming across in so many TTT lists- they’re definitely going on my TBR list! :)

  15. I am SO HAPPY to see A Long, Long Sleep on your list. I love that book with all of my heart. Also, there’s going to be a sequel (next year, I think) and I am excite about that too. Weeeeee!

    • *High five* YES! You’re the third book blogger I’ve met who has read A Long, Long Sleep; I wish more people read it because i love it so much! It was spectacular! I live in the USA and I think the sequel is by a UK publisher, so I really hope it will be published in the USA too! :)

  16. Andi ABCs says:

I read Cinder this year too and quite enjoyed it. I need to pick up Scarlett at some point. It’s hard when you want to read all the books! I also have A Long, Long Sleep on my list.

  19. All Our Yesterdays is on my TBR list. I’ve heard such glowing reviews but I’m scared! It’s not a very Estelle-like book and I like to go out of my comfort zone but it still freaks me out sometimes. So glad to see you have Jennifer Smith on your list. She is perpetually a favorite for me. :) And Going Vintage? I just bought that eBook last week or so. Have you tried reading Sean Griswold’s Head? I loved loved that one by the same author.

    Happy reading!

    • I wasn’t expecting to love All Our Yesterdays as much as I did, but it’s definitely a new favorite of mine now! I’m excited to read Jennifer E. Smith’s next book, and I still need to read Sean Griswold’s Head, good to know you loved it! :)

  20. acps927 says:

    Haha I loooove the gif!
YAY for Cinder & Scarlet and allllll the cute contemps! AKA, the nerd books, Going Vintage — Gah, I love them all and I’m so glad to see those getting recognition on someone else’s list too :D Great choices!

  24. Awesome list!! I really loved “The Summer I Became A Nerd” too – so cute! I read “The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight” too and enjoyed, but I’m really excited to read her new book “This is What Happy Looks LIke” — have you read yet? As far as Sarah Dessen, not sure how this has happened but I have YET to read any of her books, I think I’m way behind here.. I have “The Moon and More” on my TBR list but I have to add the 3 others you mentioned too! I think she and Colleen Hoover are the two authors I cannot believe I haven’t read yet.. So many books and so little time! Awesome list!

    • This is What Happy Looks Like was cute and sweet, but The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight is my favorite of hers. According to Goodreads, her new book is going to be called The Geography of Us and will be take place during the NY blackout, so I’m excited to see how that is going to be! I still need to read a Colleen Hoover book, and I hope you enjoy those Sarah Dessen books when you read them! :)

  25. Awesome list! I had a hard ime with How My Summer Went Up In Flames thought. I might go back to it.

Thanks for stopping by Swept Away By books!

  26. I love the gif! :D Going Vintage and Statistical Probability were great books, they were both cute and really quick to read. I’m looking forward to reading How My Summer Went Up in Flames, especially as I know how much you loved the book! Great list!
